A critical time for our schools
Rivendell is at a turning point. Enrollment is declining across Vermont, and Rivendell's projections reflect that reality. At the same time, budgets continue to rise. Families and taxpayers feel the squeeze—and the district must respond. A monumental decision also looms: the possibility of closing one of Rivendell's three campus sites. My own children lived through a school closure. These decisions are personal. But the School Board must face the facts and lead responsibly and with compassion. We are stewards of public funds and have a duty to protect the public trust, while ensuring students have access to high-quality education.
Elevating Academic Standards
Emphasizing high-quality schools that support high-performing teaching and learning, and improving outcomes without blame—when performance is declining, it’s a signal to adapt what we do, not to fault students or educators.
Authentic Community Voice
Focusing on engaging the community before decisions are made, especially around campus consolidation or closure, with clear options, clear tradeoffs, and plain language.
Bold Fiscal Integrity
Highlighting budget transparency, explaining cost drivers in plain language, using long-range planning, and right-sizing the district by aligning staffing, programming, and operations with enrollment realities while protecting student needs.
Why I am Running
My focus for Fairlee is to keep Rivendell’s schools high‑quality and student‑centered at a cost the community can sustain. Rivendell’s inclusive care for all kids is a real strength, and it must also be financially sustainable.
I believe major decisions — including any talk of consolidation or closure — must start with clear information, plain language, and real community engagement before choices are made. If student performance is slipping, that’s a signal to adapt what we do, not to blame students or educators.
I am committed to budget transparency, long‑range planning, and honest explanations of cost drivers. We need to “right‑size” the district by aligning staffing, programs, and operations with enrollment realities while still protecting student needs.
